At MIPC, safety is our number one focus - day in and day out. We expect that you will partner with us in this effort to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. It is the responsibility of each employee, contractor, and visitor in the facility to work and act safely, to minimize all to potential hazards, and to understand and follow all general safety requirements.
Operational Controls
- It is imperative that you take the time to understand our safety procedures and implement them, and that you feel empowered to stop any work that you feel is not being completed in a safe manner.
- Safe Work Guidelines – addressing situations where Stop Work and procedural deviations are encouraged
- System Integrity – includes details on design, manufacture, construction, testing, and maintenance
- Contractors who perform work on behalf of MIPC are following MIPC’s safety guidelines and best work practices
- Ask an MIPC employee if you are unclear or have questions on any guideline or work process
- We have an Emergency Spill Response Plan that we coordinate and share with local emergency responders.

Management of Change (MOC)
An MOC is a process for properly evaluating, addressing, and controlling the impacts of a proposed permanent or temporary change.
- Any changes that are not “replacement in-kind” changes would require an MOC. Examples include: installing new pipe, installing a new valve with different specifications, installing a new pump, installing a new cathodic protection groundbed, etc.
- MIPC is responsible for performing the MOC and for reviewing any possible impacts to the contractor’s duties. Contractors are responsible for reviewing proposed field changes with MIPC personnel prior to implementing.

Hazard Communication
- If you are not trained regarding hazard identification, proper handling procedures, personal protective measures, physical characteristics, and proper clean-up and disposal of any chemical, and are here to perform a task that could expose you to hazardous chemicals, please alert your supervisor and the appropriate MIPC representative.
- As part of our Hazard Communication program, Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) are available on chemicals used or stored at this facility, and made available to you upon request. Before bringing any new chemical onto MIPC property, you must have it have approved before use.
- Immediately report any unusual or suspicious activities near the pipeline right-of-way or pipeline facility to MIPC or local law enforcement.
